Last checked: 6 Nov 2026, ~10:20 AM IST
Next update: if HMWSSB or municipal corporations issue a citywide hostel/PG relief measure.
In short
The private tanker strike that began 3 Nov was called off the evening of 4 Nov (Telangana Today, 4 Nov 2026, 7:05 PM), but hostel and PG water stress continued into 5–6 Nov. Telangana Today reported hundreds of hostel inmates vacated across Hyderabad and Cyberabad over about 48 hours through 5 Nov (Telangana Today, 5 Nov 2026, 7:48 PM). Deccan Chronicle and Hindustan Times Telugu described ongoing pressure on PG/co-living clusters in the IT corridor and central areas (Deccan Chronicle, 5 Nov 2026; Hindustan Times Telugu, 6 Nov 2026).
This page is a practical guide for residents — not a strike live-blog. For strike timeline and HYDRAA talks, see Private water tanker strike in Cyberabad.

Strike status (so you don’t chase old news)
- Strike started Tuesday 3 Nov 2026; tankers resumed Wednesday 4 Nov after HYDRAA talks (Telangana Today, 4 Nov 2026, 7:05 PM; Deccan Chronicle, 5 Nov 2026).
- Agreement reported: operators to collect borewell water from outside the ORR with permissions; HYDRAA continues action against illegal commercial extraction inside the ORR (Telangana Today, 4 Nov 2026, 7:05 PM).

What you can do in a PG or hostel
- If the building has a water-board connection (CAN): ask the warden/manager to book an HMWSSB tanker online with the Consumer Account Number. Reported delivery window is 24–36 hours (Hyderabad Mail, 4 Nov 2026). Book before tanks are empty.
- Buildings without a CAN (often those built without required permissions) cannot use board online booking and depend on private tankers (Hyderabad Mail, 4 Nov 2026). Ask management what backup they have after the ORR sourcing change.
- Green / STP-treated tanker water is for non-drinking uses (cleaning, flushing, landscaping, construction) — not for drinking. Booking and charges: Green water tanker booking & charges. City policy on parks using STP water: GHMC parks and medians switch to STP-treated water.
- Any tanker water you drink or cook with: follow Tanker water safety (storage, boil/filter guidance as published there).
- Conserve shared bathrooms: small cuts add up — Litres per task.
- HMWSSB customer care: 155313 (same number used on our water-supply pages).
- Trust official information only. Hindustan Times Telugu reported HMWSSB urging people not to believe social-media rumours that water supply has “stopped forever,” and asking residents to use treated/recycled water for non-drinking uses while saving potable water for drinking (Hindustan Times Telugu, 6 Nov 2026). Prefer HMWSSB / GHMC / municipal releases over viral posts.
What to share in Water Watch (and what to skip)
In Hyderabad Water Watch or the Hyderabad rooms hub, helpful posts are: which area got a tanker today, whether hostel supply returned, or a public notice you can link. Do not post phone numbers, CAN numbers, house/flat numbers, Aadhaar, hostel owner names, or photos of other residents’ faces without clear consent. Soshyal rooms are for neighbour updates — keep personal data out.
Ask Hyderabad works for broader city questions that are not water-specific.

FAQ
- Is the private tanker strike still on?
- No. Telangana Today reported it was called off the evening of 4 Nov 2026 after HYDRAA talks (Telangana Today, 4 Nov 2026, 7:05 PM). Hostel shortages can continue for other reasons.
- Which PG areas are under water stress in early November 2026?
- Press reports name Gachibowli, Anjaiah Nagar, Ameerpet, Himayat Nagar, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Kondapur and Manikonda among others (Telangana Today, 5 Nov 2026; Deccan Chronicle, 5 Nov 2026; Hindustan Times Telugu, 6 Nov 2026). Coverage is not a complete street-by-street list.
- How do I book an HMWSSB water tanker from a hostel?
- Only if the building has a CAN. Booking is online; delivery is reported at 24–36 hours (Hyderabad Mail, 4 Nov 2026). Ask the hostel management — residents usually cannot book against someone else’s CAN.
- Is green tanker water safe to drink?
- Treat it as non-potable / non-drinking unless an official source says otherwise for a specific fill. Use it for cleaning and similar uses; see the green water tanker booking page and tanker water safety guide.
- Did tanker prices really double?
- Hostel operators told Telangana Today that prices had doubled (Telangana Today, 5 Nov 2026, 7:48 PM). That is an operators’ claim, not a government-published tariff we can confirm here.
- Should I believe posts saying Hyderabad water supply has stopped forever?
- No. As reported 6 Nov, HMWSSB asked the public to ignore such rumours and rely on official information (Hindustan Times Telugu, 6 Nov 2026).
