In short
On 11 February 2026, the Telangana government split the enlarged Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into three corporations inside the Outer Ring Road (G.O. Ms. No. 55, 11 Feb 2026; The Hindu, 11 Feb 2026):
- Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC): Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Quthbullapur zones (mostly west and north-west).
- Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC): Malkajgiri, Uppal and L.B. Nagar zones (mostly east and north-east).
- Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC): Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones (the core city and the south).
Find your circle in the table below, and you'll know your corporation. Earlier, 27 surrounding municipalities and corporations had been merged into GHMC, taking it from about 650 to 2,053 sq km (Deccan Chronicle, 11 Feb 2026).

Sources: zones from G.O. Ms. No. 55; circles from Deccan Chronicle, 11 Feb 2026 and Siasat, Feb 2026, which match. Spellings of circle names vary between documents.
Surprises people often ask about: Madhapur is in Cyberabad, but Jubilee Hills and Ameerpet are in GHMC. Ghatkesar, Keesara and Hayathnagar are in Malkajgiri. Shamshabad and Badangpet are in GHMC (Deccan Chronicle).
Not sure of your circle? Your circle office handles local services. Ask there or at your nearest ward office. Municipal notices and receipts often name the circle. Remember that police commissionerate, revenue district and assembly constituency boundaries are separate from these corporation boundaries. "Cyberabad" in the corporation's name doesn't mean it matches the police area of the same name.

Sources: Deccan Chronicle, 11 Feb; Indian Express, 13 Feb 2026. The Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissioners were still in post on 1 Nov 2026, when they launched the green tanker service (Deccan Chronicle, 1 Nov 2026). We haven't re-checked the GHMC commissioner since February.
All three were placed under a special officer, Jayesh Ranjan, chief secretary (metropolitan area and urban development), with common plans for things like sanitation, lakes and heritage (Indian Express, 13 Feb 2026). GHMC's elected council finished its term in February, and GHMC has been run by a special officer since (ETV Bharat, 19 Jun 2026).
What's still pending: wards and elections
- Wards (proposal, not notified): in June, ETV Bharat reported that the government planned to raise the wards from 300 to 400: GHMC 150 to 200, Cyberabad 76 to 100, Malkajgiri 74 to 100 (ETV Bharat, 19 Jun 2026). We found no notified delimitation as of 2 Nov 2026.
- Elections (not scheduled): the same report said the government aimed to hold polls to all three before the end of 2026, possibly GHMC first (ETV Bharat). That is a reported plan. No poll schedule had been announced as of 2 Nov 2026.
- Voter list: Telangana's revised assembly voter roll is due on 30 Nov 2026. See Telangana SIR: final voter list on 30 November.
What changes for you day to day
- Water and sewerage are not split. HMWSSB still serves the whole area; its service area has grown to 2,053 sq km, according to HMWSSB (Deccan Chronicle, 1 Nov 2026). Water complaints still go to HMWSSB customer care, 155 313.
- Local civic services (roads, sanitation, building permissions, local complaints) are handled by your corporation through its zones and circles (Indian Express, 13 Feb 2026).
- If an official notice or app asks for your "ULB" or corporation, pick the one from the table above.
