Telangana's driest districts in monsoon 2026

In short. Telangana as a whole ended the 2026 monsoon 17% short, which still falls in IMD's normal band.

Ranked bar chart of Telangana's 18 rain-deficient districts in June to September 2026, from Jogulamba Gadwal at 41% below normal to Nirmal at 20% below, with Hyderabad at 27% below, above a painted dry Deccan landscape.

Telangana as a whole ended the 2026 monsoon 17% short, which still falls in IMD's normal band. But the state average hides a wide spread between districts.

The least rain. Using the Telangana Development Planning Society's figures for 1 June to 30 September, 18 of 33 districts were deficient (20% or more below normal). The worst was Jogulamba Gadwal, 41% short, followed by Hanumakonda and Narayanpet (35%), Nalgonda (34%) and Medchal-Malkajgiri (33%). Hyderabad district was 27% short, getting 458.5 mm against a normal of 627.5 mm.

A pattern, roughly. Many of the driest districts are in the south of the state, around Mahabubnagar, Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet and Nalgonda, along with the Hyderabad urban districts and Warangal–Hanumakonda.

Who did fine. A few districts got more than normal: Siddipet (+10%), Medak (+8%), Rajanna Sircilla and Kamareddy (+5%) and Mancherial (+2%).

October so far. IMD's subdivision data show Telangana got just 2.6 mm from 1 to 17 October, against a normal of 63.4 mm, 96% short. October usually brings the last useful rain before winter.

What it means for you. If you live in a deficient district, expect pressure on borewells, tanks and city supply in the coming months. Saving water now, and following your local water board and agriculture department advice, helps.

Note: IMD and TGDPS use slightly different station networks, so their state totals differ by a point or so. This poster uses TGDPS for districts.
